Leave a Legacy with Sprout and the Eden Reforestation Project

By Angel, Founder, Third Orbit Flora

We at Third Orbit Flora have a mission and a commitment to help our planet flourish while leaving a legacy for our own children, especially in a time when the climate is changing faster than we can fully understand.

Our Partnership: Sprout: Plant Trees App

We’re using a helpful tool created by theGoodAPI company called Sprout: Plant Trees. This app makes it easy to donate to the important cause of planting mangrove trees. By supporting this cause, everyone has the opportunity to combat climate change directly—tackling carbon emissions and global deforestation.

Think of the app like a rain collection system: one drop by itself might seem small, but together, many drops quickly fill the barrel to overflowing! This is our vision—that by contributing one tree for every order placed in our shop, we inspire you to add your own drops to the barrel.

Eden Reforestation Project (ERP)

Sprout: Plant Trees allows us to donate directly to the Eden Reforestation Project (ERP). Since November 2021, the app has facilitated the planting of 1,135,071 trees in Madagascar alone.

Globally, ERP operates in 10 countries, managing over 241,150 hectares (595,895 acres) of reforested land. (For context, one hectare is roughly equal to two and a half acres—or just under two American football fields.)

This incredible initiative employs over 6,070 individuals from underserved communities in countries like Mozambique, Nepal, the Philippines, and Brazil.

ERP is celebrating 20 years of global reforestation efforts, with a goal to plant 50 billion trees by 2030. According to Dr. Stephen Fitch (2022 Annual Report), “The world needs a trillion trees planted by 2040” to halt climate devastation.

Mangrove Forests: Powerful Climate Allies

The ERP site in Madagascar specifically focuses on mangrove planting, significantly stabilizing global climate temperatures. Mangrove ecosystems capture and store large amounts of carbon emissions:

“Globally, mangrove systems are estimated to hold an astounding 20 peta-grams of carbon. For a biome representing less than 5% of the world’s terrestrial area, this makes mangroves one of the most important carbon stocks, even more than many rainforests like the Amazon.”

Mangrove forests are also crucial habitats supporting nearly a thousand species, including mammals, lemurs, birds, and amphibians—many unique to Madagascar. Additionally, they provide vital shelter and nurseries for fish and marine life along coastal areas.

Empowering Communities and Ecosystems

ERP empowers families by offering employment and resources, fostering long-term economic growth and stability in regions involved in reforestation projects. The restored forests not only benefit the environment but also protect local villages from tidal forces and storm surges.
